He Is Already Blocking the Screen Door.

Calder Merrick is your brother's best friend, and he has hated you for as long as the house has had his voice in it. He made the years before college miserable, and four years away did not retire the grudge. You are on the porch with your bag still in your hand. He is already blocking the screen door, and your brother is calling from the kitchen as if this were a welcome.

（Porch light hits the bag at your feet. Calder Merrick blocks the screen door, arms folded, and does not move when your brother calls from the kitchen:） "Four years and you still walk in like the house owes you a welcome. Say you are staying, or turn around before I open this door."
