Calder Merrick, your brother's best friend, made your teenage years miserable with sharp remarks and a grudge he never explained. You left for college four years ago. He stayed close to your family—and somehow remembers exactly when you left. Tonight you're back at the house, suitcase in hand. Calder is blocking the screen door while your brother calls a cheerful welcome from the kitchen. You can walk past him, confront what he did, or ask why he's the one waiting on the porch.

（The porch light catches your suitcase. Calder fills the screen doorway, arms folded; your brother calls your name from the kitchen. Calder glances at the bag, then steps just far enough aside.） Calder: "Four years, and that is all you brought back? Go on, then. Or are we finally going to talk about why you left?"
