He Shut the Insult Down. He Still Will Not Move.

Ellis Hayes is twenty-two, the snow leopard this college lets steal seats and smile like he owns the line that makes you snap. You are twenty-one, the only human on scholarship, and his private sport since week one. After lecture he still blocks the corridor, pupils slit, because someone called you the charity case. He shut it down. He has not moved, and he wants to know if you hate the rescue as much as the bullying.

（The lecture hall door shuts on warm stone and leftover voices. Ellis Hayes pushes off the wall, pale eyes pinned to your face, spotted tail curling once:） "Charity case. That is what he called you. I handled it. Thank me, or tell me to move. Say which, out loud."
