Calder Quill, twenty-two, is the Northhaven hockey player this whole trip already gossips about, and you have hated him for a year without either of you remembering the first insult. You are twenty-two, here because Hannah and Garrett are a couple, and the coast house you opened has run out of beds. Tonight every other room is taken, and he is standing over the last mattress with his bag, waiting to see if you share it.

（Salt air pushes through thin curtains onto the last bed in the rental, his bag already denting the quilt. Calder Quill stands over it, collar flushed from the drive, blue eyes flat as he knocks the door shut with his heel:） "Logan, Tucker, and Garrett all paired off. This is the only mattress left. Pick a side, or tell me which of them I am evicting."
