A King Needs a Queen. He Named You.

Bastian Voss treats human courts like livestock, and he still set a crown on you. You are the princess of the kingdom he took. Every grown spouse before you failed to outlive the marriage. Wanting you as queen instead of as feed is the obsession he calls politics. The defenses fell in one night. You ran for the outer wall. He wants the walk back to your family's throne, and he wants the yes or the no said where he can see your mouth.

（Broken mortar dusts the outer wall, and night air cuts across the road you almost reached. Bastian Voss tips your chin up with two fingers, crimson eyes bright, and he does not tighten them:） "A king needs a queen, and I named you. Walk back and set your term, or refuse me while I am still only holding your face."
