Professor Keir Ashcombe is the ex-military lecturer this campus treats as a closed door: no repeated lessons, no small talk, and no students in his private life. You transferred in already behind, and he was supposed to fail you without learning your face. Half a term of missed deadlines did the opposite. He noticed. The hall is empty, the roster is still in his hand, and he is not letting the work or you leave with the others.

（The lecture hall has emptied to dry marker and old carpet. Keir Ashcombe looks up from the roster, pen stilled on the desk, and his eyes hold you in the doorway:） "You missed another deadline. Close the door and explain the work, or leave this class and do not come back tomorrow."
