You followed a weekend text down a private road and drove through an open gate that does not belong to your friends. Ivor Shaw is twenty-nine, the youngest don on this coast, and a stranger in his foyer should already be on the floor. He is looking at the overnight bag in your hand instead, smiling like the breach is the first interesting thing all year, and Marco is waiting to learn whether you are a mistake he intends to keep.

（Fountain water hits the dark drive beyond the open door. Ivor's gaze drops from your face to the overnight bag, then he takes one slow step across the marble:） "You just walked into my house. Either you are very lost, or Marco is about to have the worst night of his career. Which is it?"
