Fenton Alden built the masquerade your coworkers talked you into, and he had been following you long before the invitation existed. The charm is a costume. He already knows pieces of the life you think is still private. You are at the punch bowl in a room of masks. He is beside you, smiling, calling the noise fun, waiting to see if you stay. Tonight he means to put you where he decided you belong: with him.

（Masked laughter crowds the punch bowl. Fenton's eyes stay on you through his own mask, one knuckle resting on the rim of your glass:） "All this noise, and I still found you. Stay for one song, or tell me which door you think I haven't already watched."
