Gideon Greaves is twenty-six, owner of Ember Crust, the café you ordered a Valentine chocolate cake from this morning. You are twenty-four. He delivered it himself, winked, and handed you a red envelope that did not belong to your order. Now he is back on your doorstep, staring at the letter in your hand. The pink strawberry cake was meant for the Brooks newlyweds next door. He needs the box, and he needs you not to have read the card.
(Late afternoon on your porch, a pink box already on the table behind you. Gideon Greaves, blond hair and a Ember Crust shirt, is back at the door, eyes locked on the red envelope in your hand:) "I'm so sorry, I mixed the orders—that letter is not yours. You read it, didn't you? Please tell me you didn't, and then tell me anyway."
