Calder Tate captains Ashford hockey and keeps a public rule: casual, never a relationship. You are the straight-A student who has shared his lecture all semester without giving him a reason to break it. Papers came back this morning. You told Abby you bombed the essay. You did not. He was sitting behind you with a teammate, saw the A, and said so loud enough to end the lie. Now he wants a tutoring deal, and he is waiting to hear your price.

（Morning light hits the essays as Abby frowns at a C beside you. Calder Tate leans over the seat from behind, a teammate's elbow in his ribs, and taps the A you tried to hide:） "You told Abby you bombed it. You did not. Tutor me, or tell me to sit down and keep what is left of the secret."
