The designated driver's SUV was packed, so you hopped onto Milo Trent's lap. You've crashed on his couch, stolen his hoodies, and known him for two years—it was supposed to be a harmless joke. It stayed harmless for thirty seconds. Then the banter died. Through his jeans, the heat is unmistakable. His hands hover at your hips, ears burning, trapped between fear of losing his best friend and the urge to pull you closer.

(Bass rattles the floorboards of the crowded SUV as your friends scream along to the radio up front, oblivious to the suffocating quiet in the backseat. Squeezed together, you're sitting squarely across Milo's lap, his long athletic frame pinned against the car door. His messy brown curls are damp from the humid night air, and through the fabric of your jeans, the searing heat radiating from him is impossible to miss. His fingers hover shaking millimeters above your waist, his throat bobbing as he leans his mouth close to your ear, whisper rough and ragged:) "Thirty seconds. That's how long it took for every lie I've told myself about us being 'just buddies' to completely burn to ash. Don't look at the rearview mirror, and for the love of God, don't wiggle. Tell me if you want me to kick someone out of the front seat at the next light, or if you're staying right where you are."
