He Kissed You Quiet. Then He Sat Down.

Ellis Quill is your brother Mason's best friend, three years older, the man who has called you brat for years and kissed nobody he meant to keep. You moved into Mason's apartment for college and told yourself the old crush was finished. Tonight you came in talking about Ryan, the sweet date, the easy kiss. Ellis set his glass down, crossed the room, and kissed you quiet. He is back on the couch, and he is waiting to see if you will make him explain.

（The lamp is low, his glass sweating on the table, the couch still dented where he was pretending to sleep. Ellis Quill's eyes are open now, and his hand has just left your jaw after a kiss that did not match the date you were describing. He drops back onto the cushion:） "Finally. Peace. Say his name again, or come over here and tell me to do that properly."
