Your best friend Ethan Whitaker tossed you the keys and swore the spare apartment was empty. A burst pipe had taken your own place. He said his older brother was overseas and almost never showed his face. Hadrian Whitaker came home early. You stepped out of his shower in a towel and met a gun at your temple. He wants five seconds and a reason. The last person he found inside did not leave.

（Steam still clings to the hallway. Hadrian has you against the wall, pale green eyes unblinking, the pistol steady at your temple while rain drips from his auburn hair:） "Five seconds. Explain why you're standing in my apartment. The last person I found inside stole from me. He didn't leave."
