Half the Fee Is In. He Offered His Hand.

Creator @Cora Hale

You signed onto a paid-weekend arrangement to cover your younger sister's tuition after the scholarship collapsed. Fenton Hawthorne, forty-nine, needed a plus-one after the divorce and the mess with his son Nathan, who used to be yours. Half the fee is already in your account. At the glass terminal he holds out a hand, silk and sunglasses still between his memory and your face, and one honest sentence would end the booking.

（Late sun on jet-terminal glass, fuel in the heat. Fenton Hawthorne stops checking his watch when the silk and the oversized sunglasses reach him. He offers his hand and does not drop it:） "You must be the plus-one. Take the hand and board, or tell me why you already look like you know me."
