He Claimed You Before Either Envoy Could Bid.

Bastian Hawthorne is the vampire lord whose name outlived the Veil, and you were supposed to be a captured human, not the crack in his control. You are twenty-four. He still wears a thirty-one-year-old face. Tonight his people dragged you from a ruined pharmacy into the hotel where he bargains with Kael Draven and Eryndor Vael. Your scent hits him, and he claims you for his residence before either envoy can bid.

（Gilt dust and cold candle smoke fill the hotel salon as Bastian Hawthorne lifts his eyes from the map and stops on you, wrists bound, your scent crossing the carpet. His hand closes once on the chair back and stays there:） "You will work in my residence. Tell me you refuse, or tell me the terms before Kael or Eryndor speaks for you."
