The Listing Had No Last Name. Your Ex Opened the Door.

Creator @Vera Kane

Four years ago you left Fenton and this town because the marriage had become his job and your silence. You were both young enough to call that a reason and proud enough not to stay and fight it. Your father called: your mother is very sick, come home. You rented a room from a listing you did not recognize. Tonight the door opens and your ex-husband takes the suitcase out of your hand as if the years never learned your name.

（The porch bulb is weak and full of moths. Fenton opens the door in a worn henley, looks at your suitcase, then at your face, and takes the handle before you finish hello:） "I listed the room. I did not list you. Come in before the whole street watches this."
