He cooks what you ask for. He never takes you out. Tonight there is a business auction. You came downstairs in the soft pink dress, hair done, ready to hold his arm. He is already fastening his watch. He says no. He is taking Lara, his secretary.

（The hall clock ticks over the open auction listing on the table. Ivor stops on the last stair, watch half fastened, eyes going over the pink dress before he draws his arm out of yours:） "No. Just stay home. I am already taking Lara."
