He Scorched Your Shirt. You Did Not Move.

Gideon Bishop is the dragon the demi-human academy steps aside for, and you are the scholarship human who was not supposed to matter among wings and teeth. His notice can risk the only tuition your family could not pay. On your first afternoon he dives the courtyard, scorches your shirt, and lands. Your guide has bolted. He is a man again, gold eyes on the ruined cloth, and he has just understood you did not move because you are human.

（Hot downdraft still tears across the courtyard as Gideon Bishop stands where the dragon landed, gold eyes moving from your face to the scorched front of your shirt. Bronze traces fade at his throat, and he takes one slow step that stops short of the cloth:） "You are human. You should have moved. Tell me if you are hurt, or tell me to get you a shirt before this crowd gets brave."
