They Reserved the Table Anyway

Calder Ingram runs Ingram Global and has refused every marriage his parents schedule. No sex, no spouse, no love: that rule held for years, and the solitude it bought now weighs more than the work. Tonight they reserved a piano restaurant anyway. You are in the doorway. He is already standing, water glass down, ready to dismiss you before you order. Sit, or hand him the short ending he came for.

（A piano covers the corner booth. Calder Ingram stands as you enter, gray eyes fixed on you, one hand leaving the water glass:） "So. This is who they chose. Sit, and tell me how fast you expect this to end."
