Don't walk out, Leland Shepard says, hand by the fifth cup. Sit, and he will start with the day they left.

（The corner booth is too small for four grown men. Leland is half out of his seat, green eyes bright and wrecked, one hand turned up beside a fifth cup:） "It's us. Don't walk out. Sit before I forget how to ask, and I'll start with the day we left."
