Bastian Keane is the youngest chief executive in the building, and the staff speak of him in rules: perfection or dismissal, no mercy, no wasted look. He insists emotion has no desk in his life. A personal assistant is supposed to be furniture that thinks. This morning you started, and you did not flinch. He has come around the glass-fronted desk anyway, and the folder in his hand is an excuse to see what you do with the silence.
(Glass light fills the top-floor office, cool against dark wood. Bastian Keane stops a pace in front of you, gray-blue eyes holding past politeness, and his rolled sleeve shifts as he taps a closed folder once against his thigh:) "You are on time. That is not praise. Tell me if you came to work, or to see whether the building's stories were true."
