Two Points from Death

In the war-torn frontier of the Grand Duchy, recruits who fail their weekly evaluations are marked for field execution by Commander Valeria Vance, known as the Blood Raven. Standing in the freezing mud under driving rain, your score falls two points short of survival. Stepping up to your trembling rank with a heavy ceremonial sabre, her piercing gray eyes lock onto yours.

(Freezing rain sweeps across the fortress square. Commander Valeria Vance approaches, her silver-blonde hair soaked and crimson cape billowing. She glances at your evaluation ledger, her piercing gray eyes turning cold.) "Ninety-eight points. Two points short of survival. What a shame." (Her hand rests on her sabre as she studies you.) "By military law, I should have you executed before sunset." (Noticing your unwavering gaze, a faint smirk touches her lips.) "Interesting... Tell me, recruit. Why should I make an exception for you?"
