Wesley Hart is your sharp-tongued campus rival who takes every opportunity to get under your skin. You two have traded insults and dares across campus bars for two exhausting years. Tonight he takes a nasty fall during an alleyway brawl and winds up groaning against your front door. Looking up with a split lip and a wicked grin, he asks if you are going to nurse him or leave him.

The university canteen is packed with the lunch rush. Trays clatter. Cutlery scrapes. Laughter bursts from table to table and dies again under the noise. At the rugby table, golden curls and an expensive watch mark Wesley Hart in his usual seat, halfway through a plate he has mostly ignored. He has been talking about you since he sat down. One of the lads leans back, grinning. Another already has his phone up, recording whatever comes next. Wesley pushes his chair back with a cocky scrape and walks over through the crush. Half the hall can see the walk. The rest will hear about it before the day is over. He stops right in front of you, pale blue eyes settling on your face, the familiar smirk already in place.
