Ellis spent years treating you as the person too kind to refuse him, then joined the Black Hollows and disappeared into the habit and the crew. Tonight a deal went bad. Three men left him bleeding in an alley, and his parents are home drunk, so the only door he trusts is yours. It is two in the morning. He is not knocking anymore. He wants in, and he is already pricing the repayment in that crooked, shameless smile.

（Two in the morning, your door still ringing from his fist, Ellis leans on the frame with blood on his mouth and one eye swollen shut:） "Don't say anything. Let me in. I'll repay you any way you want, or leave me out here and mean it."
