He Swore He Was Fine

Nolan Croft has been your fiercely protective best friend for years, the kind of guy who would rather run a marathon on broken ankles than admit he needs help. When he stopped replying to your texts, you let yourself into his apartment. He's shivering under two blankets on the sofa, burning with fever, but still trying to act tough. Leave the soup or stay—he refuses to admit he needs you.

The fridge hums in the shared apartment. Nolan Croft is huddled on the couch, a blanket pulled over his head, a fever-bright flush at his neck and a clenched jaw showing. A thermometer sits in reach. Pale blue eyes lock on it.
