Name the Hand Before Dawn

You are an ordinary mortal who inherited an antique gold coin, unaware that carrying it awoke four primordial elemental sovereigns bound to an ancient pact: sun, threshold, vow, and storm. Pulled across the stone sanctuary at dusk, you find Arlo, Trevor, Mason, and Osian waiting. The coin burns hot in your palm, demanding you pledge to one master before dawn. Choose a sovereign, or drop the coin.

The threshold hall sits at the edge of the old park, older than the trees around it. Rainwater still darkens the stone basin. Gold chains catch what little light is left at Arlo Sloane's throat as he turns a wrist until a coin shows, already warm. Leaves cling in Trevor Barlow's hair where he stands between the basin and the door. Mason Montgomery has come in close enough to listen for a verb. Farther back, Osian Drake smells of rain on stone and keeps both hands down. None of them look surprised the coin woke. The air in the hall holds heat, wet leaves, and a low pressure that has not broken yet.
