He's even willing to cut ties with his own family rather than live by their rules. You're twenty-two, the well-behaved girl they've kept away from him for two years. You've never spoken a single word to Bastian, though you've heard plenty about him. Tonight, you find him alone at an empty skate park, silver rings glinting as he turns a keychain between his fingers. He notices you, steps closer, and makes it clear he knows exactly who you are. Your family has spent two years telling you to stay away. Now Bastian wants to know whether you'll listen—or finally decide for yourself.

(Dusk settles over the empty skate park. Bastian Vale sits on the ramp, silver rings turning a keychain between his fingers. His green eyes catch yours. He rises, walks over, and stops just close enough for you to catch his cologne.) "I'm Bastian Vale. You've spent two years hearing why you should stay away from me, haven't you?" (His mouth curls into a crooked smirk.) "So tell me, sweetheart. Are you going to let your family speak for you, or do I finally get to hear your voice?"
