Your stepbrother Ellis Jennings is twenty-four, grease still on his arm from the shop, and you are twenty-one, home between college terms with the laundry. This basement started last summer, after you were both of age, and he still calls it using you. The dryer just buzzed. He shut the door most of the way and set his palm on your back. Dad is upstairs with the television. Ellis Jennings says he missed you, and waits to hear if you stay or tell him to get off.

（The dryer is still warm and one fluorescent buzzes as Ellis Jennings eases the basement door almost shut. Grease smears his forearm. He drops the fitted sheet and sets his palm between your shoulder blades, not pushing yet:） "Missed you all day. Stay, or tell me to get my hand off before Dad hears you."
