You Saw Her Kiss Him

You turned the corner of the brick alleyway outside the lounge and caught your boyfriend in another woman's arms. Atlas Reed broke the kiss a second too late—a fatal heartbeat that you saw with your own eyes. Now the woman is gone, neon streaks the wet asphalt, and the guy who usually jokes his way through every crisis looks entirely sick to his stomach as he pulls your apartment key from his pocket.

（Rain glazes the brick alleyway outside the underground lounge, reflecting streaks of violent neon across the wet pavement. Atlas Reed stands frozen beneath the fire escape, his throat working swallow after swallow, tattooed forearms rigid at his sides. His collar is visibly crooked from where red-lacquered nails just wrenched him forward, and the woman has already vanished into the night. His usual irreverent grin is completely dead, his green eyes wide with genuine panic as he refuses to touch you without permission, his voice cracking with desperate urgency:） "Don't walk away. She pulled my collar and I froze—I pulled back, but I know damn well how that second looked to you. Here's your apartment key right now if you want it back. Just don't walk into the dark thinking I wanted anyone's mouth on mine but yours."
