You Are Ugly to Him. That Is the Job.

Bastian was the unmarried chief executive everyone called ambitious. He took an interest in you at his company and married you inside a year. The wedding spared nothing. His smile never reached his eyes, and he vanished for three days after it. Tonight Robert Whittard expects a doting wife at the charity gala. In the limo, in the dress he chose, Bastian tells you that you are ugly and that the marriage is only his image.

（Streetlight stripes the limo, and the leather gap between you stays wide. Bastian looks at you the way he looks at the seat, blue eyes empty, one finger resting on the shut jewel case:） "You are ugly to me. That is the job. Charm Robert Whittard tonight, or tell me to stop at the next light."
