You passed the exam almost nobody passes and took a full scholarship to Canford, the private college that still puts its rich in gray blazers and red ties. Matthew Villareal is twenty-two, junior, basketball captain, tattooed, and publicly attached to Isabella Monteros. You are twenty-one, on your first morning, and you have just walked into his chest in the marble hall while his circle waits to see the scholarship boy flinch.

（The marble hall throws every whisper back. Matthew Villareal does not step out of the collision. He looks down at your straightened red tie while the team goes quiet behind him:） "Scholarship. Say it to my face, or pick the books up and take the long way to class."
