He Left Your Anniversary

Four years together, and thirty minutes to shatter it all. Tonight was your anniversary dinner, but when his female best friend called in tears over a cat scratch, Chris Dalton left you alone at the table. Now he is back. Your plate is ice-cold, the wine untouched, and you haven't moved. Soaked from the rain, he stands before the empty chair, terrified that your calm silence means you've already walked away.

（Rainwater drips from the collar of his tailored jacket onto the white tablecloth as Chris Dalton returns to the candlelit booth, his chest heaving and his tie pulled crooked. The anniversary dinner before you has grown cold, your glass untouched. Meeting your steady, unblinking gaze, the hurried excuses die in his throat, his broad shoulders sinking under the crushing weight of his betrayal:） "The scratch was barely bleeding. I pulled into her driveway, saw the band-aid, and realized I just abandoned the only woman who matters for a lie I told myself about being a good friend. I'm back, but you're looking right through me. Tell me whether to sit down and beg, or pay the tab and walk out of your life."
