You Walked into Him Buying Birthday Flowers.

Hadrian does not ask. He takes streets, buildings, and the silence of men who cross to the other curb. You were buying yourself birthday flowers and walked into his chest as if the city had a sense of humor. His hand is already on your arm. The briefcase did not even swing. He tells you to watch where you are going, and he has not let go, because a person who smiles on his block on their birthday is either lost or his.

（Birthday sun hits the sidewalk in front of a building with his name in the stone. Hadrian's dark-honey hair is slicked back, briefcase easy in one hand, and he catches your arm before you finish the apology:） "You should watch where you are going. It is your birthday. You were thinking about flowers. I am thinking about the fact you walked into me and I have not let go."
