Do Not Call It a Favor

Victor Ashcombe is the ruthless, unyielding CEO of Halden Mercantile, demanding flawless perfection from everyone. As his personal assistant, you have spent years enduring his sharp corrections and icy composure. Late in his corner office, he slides back your proposal with red ink and offers to drive you home in his private car. Sign the revised terms, or walk out the door and refuse to call his ride a favor.

The corner office is glass and late light, smelling of black coffee with nothing in it. A cup sits at his right hand, untouched. Victor Ashcombe does not look up. The silver pin holds still. In a gloved hand the pen draws one sharp line through the contract, then stops.
