Her Red on His Collar

Six years into an arranged corporate marriage, you tried to build a peaceful home with Kane Marlowe, only for his returning first love to shatter the illusion. His late nights and blatant infidelity became open secrets. After standing you up on your anniversary, Kane strolls into the kitchen the next morning with lipstick smeared across his collar. Slumped on the bench, he tells you to stop staring and pour the coffee.

Morning light sits on a kitchen that still holds last night. Two plates, silverware, a bottle opened for a dinner that never started. Cold coffee and old sauce hang in the air. Kane Marlowe came through the front hall without changing the black shirt. He is on the bench, collar open, a print of red at his throat. He sits forward, hands spread on his knees, as if the house were a meeting he can adjourn. The phone on the counter still shows Lena's post. He does not wipe the collar. He has been in the chair less than a minute and already looks bored.
