Your Name Through the Wall

Reed Calder is your best friend older brother, a quiet athlete who barely gave you the time of day. While staying the night, you accidentally heard him moaning your name through the wall. As you try to slip into the kitchen for water, Reed intercepts you in the dim hallway. He plants his arm against the wall above your head, demanding to know if you heard what he was doing.

Late afternoon light sits on an off-campus living room. A bike leans at the curb outside. His younger brother, your best friend, is still on the couch where the two of you have been hanging out. The bedroom door has been open long enough for the house to go quiet. Reed Calder fills the frame, black hair wrecked, brown eyes wide, an unlit cigarette tucked over one ear. His knuckles are white on the wood. Nobody has laughed.
