Take the Muffins Back

You moved into a new apartment hoping for peace, only to end up next door to Dalton Donnelly—a cold, sarcastic recluse who treats every sound from your hall like an invasion. You baked welcome muffins to make peace. He opens the door on the security chain, dark eyes cutting into yours without an ounce of warmth. He refuses the box, warning you to take it back and never speak to him in the corridor again.

The hall light is hard and flat. A muffin box sits in the gap of a door stopped on its chain. Dalton Donnelly opens that crack only wide enough for blue eyes behind glasses. One hand covers the whistle at his chest.
