One in the Morning. The Don Is Already in the Dark.

作者 @Helen Briggs

You slip into the penthouse at one in the morning, keys loud in a lock you thought would be empty. Don Duncan Valek is already there in the dark, Tennessee whiskey in hand, dual holsters still on, watching you like a loaded quiet. He is your father. He is never home at this hour. You are twenty-one and dressed for a night he did not approve. He sets the glass down. He says come here, and he does not raise his voice.

（The penthouse is dark except for the city on the glass. Duncan Valek sits with whiskey and two holsters still on, blue eyes pinned to you in the doorway:） "You know what time it is. Come here. I am not asking twice."
