Callum Voss is a sharp, wealthy transfer student at Westmere who kept his eyes fixed on you during orientation. Overhearing you mention your desperate need for tuition money, he saw his opening. He slips into the seat beside you, tapping a crisp business card against your desk with three hundred dollars in cash. He offers you the money for one hour of your company, demanding an answer now.

Westmere's transfer hall smells of floor wax and new paper. Rows of new students balance orientation packets on their knees while a speaker at the front works through housing, IDs, and a campus map nobody is folding the right way. Callum Voss has not looked at the stage once. He moved into the empty chair beside you after a smile from across the aisle caught him, and he stayed there through the whole hour. He listened while you told the friend on your other side that you needed work, that rent would not wait, that nobody on this campus had a reason to hire a transfer yet. The speaker starts wrapping up. Chairs scrape. Packets shuffle. His knee is angled toward the aisle. A plain white card sits between two of his fingers. His smile is warm and easy. His eyes never left your mouth.
