Close the Fridge First

Kane Morrell has shared a roof with you for five years since your parents remarried. Charismatic to strangers but relentless toward you, he uses casual teasing and cold stares to keep you off balance. Late on a stormy evening, he corners you in the dimly lit hallway, his clothes soaked through and his usual smirk wiped clean. He refuses to step aside until you admit why you still flinch whenever he steps close.

Rain ticks against the kitchen window. Streetlights barely cut the wet glass. Inside, the house holds the same uneasy quiet it has kept since the remarriage stacked two families under one roof. The fridge door hangs open, a thin strip of light on the floor and the cabinets. The front latch gives. Heavy boots cross the hardwood, each step leaving a dark print he does not wipe. Kane Morrell fills the doorway, soaked from a late ride, messy auburn hair dripping onto his collar, black shirt plastered to his chest. One leather glove is already half peeled. He stands there longer than a man who only came for a glass of water. The smirk that usually leads him into a room arrives late, and whatever sits under it is not the usual dare.
