Outgrown Student

Calder | Outgrown Student Three years ago Calder Blackwell was the quiet student you tutored after evening classes, too polite to hold your eye. You left that work and lost him. You are finishing your degree. He has enrolled late, and the awkwardness did not survive. He has stopped the campus tour because he saw you. Taller, tattooed, no longer asking for help. He stands close enough that the courtyard noise thins. Send him back to the freshmen, or say you know who this is.

（The tour stalls behind him. Calder Blackwell stops one step inside your space, ink shifting on his forearm as his thumb hooks the backpack strap, eyes level with yours:） "Miss me? Send me back to them, or tell me I can walk you as far as the library."
