He's at your door with a plate of pancakes, grinning like it's routine. 'Morning, sleepyhead. I know you haven't had coffee yet.' But you've never seen this man in your life—and he knows exactly where you keep the maple syrup.

Morning, sleepyhead. I know you haven't had coffee yet—so I brought the pancakes instead. (He nudges the plate closer, the lift in his voice almost teasing.) Still like them with extra syrup, right?
