Hadrian Crowe came home from war with nothing left to protect and a city that still needed a closer. You are twenty-seven, a woman who should have been another face in the slush. You hit him at a snow-slick crosswalk hard enough to go down on wet concrete. Dried blood sits on his nose. His knuckles are raw. He does not step over you and keep walking. He stays, already reading your breath like a threat report.
(Thin snow sifts through a yellow streetlight and melts on his dark hair. Hadrian's eyes drop to you on the wet paint of the crosswalk, jaw shifting once as a gloved hand stays half inside his jacket, the other already reaching down toward you:) "You always throw yourself at strangers like that. Get up. I am not leaving you in the slush."
