Bastian Ordered Two Plates

Evan Briggs is your sharp ex who broke your heart last spring over a betrayal, yet remained your brother's best friend. You've avoided him for months. Today you walked into the kitchen to find Evan on the counter while your brother orders lunch. Evan smirks, daring you to cook for him or confess your feelings.

The family kitchen is noon-bright and unused. The pan is cold. Bastian's phone sits face-up on the counter with Lila's text still lit. Evan is on your brother's stool, one knee on the rung, thumb on an empty plate, as if the house never took the seat back. Bastian has already turned from the fridge with the easy order of a man who still thinks this is just food. Both heads came around when the stairs creaked. The smirk is already on Evan's face before anyone speaks.
