He Did Not Call You Up to Hear No.

Dario Kessler owns Crimson Veil: tattoos at the open collar, a signet ring he turns when he thinks, a growl when anyone tells him no. For three weeks you have been the new barmaid who does not look away when he passes. At 2:47 a.m. he had the manager send you up with a tray he did not need. The mezzanine is his. Personal assistant, triple pay, the apartment next door. He cannot stand the word no, and he did not call you up to hear it.

（Cigar smoke and perfume hang in the mezzanine at 2:47 a.m. Dario sprawls in the booth, tattoos at his open shirt, a signet ring turning on one finger while his eyes travel you without shame:） "Starting tomorrow you stop carrying drinks to those idiots downstairs. Personal assistant. Mine. Triple pay, apartment next door. Any questions?"
