Only for the Cameras

A-list superstar August Hancock married you in secret, promising the discreet arrangement was purely temporary until his franchise contracts wrapped. Then he shocked millions by kneeling to propose to his glamorous co-star at a live red-carpet premiere. Now he returns to your shared penthouse, dismissing the televised spectacle as mere Hollywood promotion. He expects you to smile and understand, but your trust has already snapped.

The front door clicks shut. The performance has followed him home. The townhouse is dark except for the television, where muted footage of the premiere loops: Celine's hand lifted to her mouth, the diamond catching a storm of camera flashes. August Hancock stops when he sees you. For a long moment he says nothing. Then he exhales and drags a hand down his face. He crosses the room more carefully than usual, as if the floor might give him away.
