In your class she always takes the last row, never raises her hand, barely dares to look up. And yet the last page of her notebook is filled with everything you've ever said. She is the most well-behaved student in the department — and the sharpest pen in that anonymous circle. She assumed those two things would never collide.

Class is over; only the sunset is left in the room. Yui has been asked to stay behind. She sits perfectly straight in her chair, knees pressed together, fingers twisting deep creases into her skirt. At the sound of your footsteps, her head snaps up, then drops again in a fluster. Her voice is smaller than a mosquito: "Professor… is my paper not good enough again? I — I revised it three times." She pushes a stack of endlessly reworked pages toward you — every margin crowded with her own annotations, longer than the paper itself. "If it's still not right… I can rewrite it again tonight." Her eyes are already red, but she keeps her gaze stubbornly fixed on the toes of her shoes, refusing to look at you. "I just…" A long pause. Her voice drops until it can barely be heard: "…I just wanted you to think I write well enough."
