The Couch Is Not Your Bed

Declan Holt entered this arranged marriage strictly for business, making it clear romance was off-limits. For months you've slept in separate penthouse suites. Tonight you found him sitting on your sofa with his tie loose and eyes tired. He blocks your retreat with wide shoulders, announcing the couch is not his bed.

Past midnight, one lamp burns beside the couch in Declan Holt's townhouse. Rain ticks against the windows and beads on the coat he has not taken off. His key lands in the dish by the door. His steps cross the floor without hurrying. He stops over the couch and looks down at his wife, asleep in the one place the marriage was not supposed to sleep, the throw still pulled to her shoulder.
