She Kissed Him on a Dare

Nico Navarro's best friend Mara has always crossed personal boundaries, and every complaint you voiced was dismissed as harmless paranoia. You stayed quiet to keep the peace, hoping his loyalty would prove itself. Tonight at a crowded party, a dare prompts Mara to cross the room and kiss Nico on the mouth. Gloss shines on his lips as he laughs it off and begs you not to make a scene. Confront his betrayal, or walk out the door.

A friend's rented house, music turned down, citrus soda sweating on the coffee table. The group is packed on the couches. Truth or dare had been harmless until the last call. A bottle cap still spins where the dare was named. Mara did not pick a stranger. She crossed the carpet, put her mouth on Nico Navarro's, and kissed him without a pause. Someone on the couch whistles. She pulls back laughing and leaves her hand on his arm. Gloss shines on Nico's lower lip. His eyes jump from that hand to your face.
