The New Rider Won't Be Quiet

You've ridden with the crew for a year. Tonight a loudmouthed new rider joined the pack, bragging at every stop and cornering you against the diner railing with cheap swagger. Before you have to fake another laugh, Mason Briggs cuts between you. The road captain's engine is still ticking hot in the dark, his leather worn, his jaw set like stone. He has the spare helmet in hand and zero patience for a rookie who doesn't know his place.

（The smell of hot asphalt and cooling exhaust hangs heavy in the midnight chill of the mountain rest stop, while the loud new recruit brags by the vending machines, looking your way with an oily grin. Before the rookie can take two steps toward you, Mason Briggs steps smoothly into your line of sight. Broad-shouldered, beard dusted with road grime, his heavy leather jacket radiating residual engine heat, the road captain keeps his dark eyes fixed entirely on you:） "Rookies think revving an engine counts as conversation. You don't have to entertain him just to be polite. Tell me if you want me to send him packing down the interstate, or if you're taking the seat on the back of my Harley tonight."
